In the Book of Genesis, Joseph’s brothers sell him into slavery. Later, when he has risen to power, his brothers think he might seek vengeance against them. But Joseph has a different perspective. He says to his brothers, “Do not be afraid, for am I in God’s place? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.”

In this lecture, attorney Daniel Buttafuoco discusses the relevance of this perspective when we assess the “Problem of Evil.”
